The premier fair for higher education student recruitment in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

Focused on the needs of Higher Education student recruitment

Historic trends show that more Latin Americans study abroad at the postgraduate level as opposed to the undergraduate. However, there has been growing interest from younger students to go further afield for their first degree, with Latin undergraduate enrolments steadily rising for overseas destinations.

BMI’s approach harnesses this appetite to study abroad via a two-pronged brand strategy that mirrors the demands of the local student market:

  • Playing to the strength of the postgraduate student flows, our pre-fair marketing targets prospective master’s students via the well known and popular ExpoPosgrados brand;
  • Meanwhile, our ExpoEstudiante brand allows us to engage with students from the best private high schools who are actively searching for undergraduate courses abroad.

Through pre-event targeting, we are able to bring both degree levels under one roof, and then direct participants accordingly. Attending students are given badges that easily identify them by their course level of interest, and all exhibiting institutions clearly signpost the course levels they offer. Additional providers such as language and pathway programmes that prepare students for higher education are also well suited to participate.

In this way, recruiters are able to tap into both the depth and breadth of the Latin American market and easily meet prospects who match their educational offering.

Mexico: The second largest student market in Latin America

Backed by more than 30 years of experience running fairs across Latin America and Brazil, as well as in the Middle East and Asia, BMI is proud to take you to three of the most important student recruitment cities in Mexico in Spring 2023.

After Brazil, Mexico has the second largest economy and population in the region, which makes it a natural addition to your recruitment itinerary. Due to a healthy appetite for overseas education combined with rising middle and upper class incomes, Mexico is a ripe market for recruiters who are keen to welcome its vivacious students to their campus.

Colombia: A rich source of amazing students

The demand for language courses, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes has been booming in Colombia and the outlook for international student mobility remains strong for the years ahead. As one of the hottest markets for international student recruitment, Colombia deserves a key place in your marketing mix.

BMI has organised fairs in Colombia since 1996 and has also operated a special event series called EuroPosgrados Colombia on behalf of Campus France and DAAD, held annually from 2010 to 2019.

Our fairs are held in-country twice a year and bring you into three bustling Colombian cities (Cali, Medellín and Bogotá), making it the perfect platform for institutions to recruit at all education levels.

Peru on the rise

The Peruvian economy has experienced a boom in the last decade and as a result, there has been increasing interest in Peru as a student recruitment market.

Education institutions have increased their engagement in Peru’s capital city Lima since the government launched the “Pronabec Becas de la República” programme – a government initiative to increase funding for postgraduate courses. The government in Peru has, over the last few years, made a whole range of scholarship programmes available, some of which have had a very positive effect on student mobility.

With Peru developing well economically and becoming more outward looking in its quest to develop human capital, it is an exciting time to be recruiting in Peru. Mark your calendars and be sure to join us in spring to solidify your brand presence in this emerging market.

Recruiting students in Chile

Chile is the only South American OECD member and is recognised as one of the strongest performing economies in the region. The country has the highest human development index and one of the highest GDPs per capita in Latin America.

To fuel outbound student mobility and increase interest in postgraduate studies abroad, the Chilean government continues to fund their popular Becas Chile scholarship programme. Meanwhile, their “Penguins without Borders” programme funds the best high school students to study for six months in New Zealand or Canada at the secondary school level.

BMI attracts more than 6,500 visitors to their student recruitment fairs in Chile annually. As the international education market in Chile is maturing, Chilean students are looking for a range of opportunities overseas including language, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Recruitment success story

“We always like to share our success stories from events we have attended. We are still accepting applications for our Fall 2022 intake, and it usually takes us about 1-2 cycles before we see enrolment from our events, but I do have some great news to share!

So far we have received one application from the Medellin event, and we are about to admit a student from the Mexico City event in Fall 2021.

This is very exciting news! We are still following up with our contacts and look forward to seeing more students from our BMI events enrol in the future.”

Supported and attended by the region's most important funding bodies

Key funding bodies in Latin America play a fundamental role in assisting thousands of students to pursue overseas studies. These organisations exhibit in our events because they know that our fairs draw in record numbers of students year after year. They present seminars and meet directly with students, supporting their future ambitions once they decide on their course and institution.
